DOGPOUND

Tuka of Dogpound talk about their new album "A Night with the Gutter"

Hello guys, First let me start off with saying that "A Night in the Gutter" is a really fantastic album.
Please tell me a little bit about the background of our band.

Tuka: Thanks! We are really happy with the album our selfs.
If I was'nt in Dogpound, I would be really happy if I found an album
this good.
About the background, what can I say....
Micke and Figge has been playing togehter in bands like "World Of Silence" & "Godgory".
Micke and Hea are childhood friends & when they met me and we found out that
we have the same kind of intrests, hard rock, bad tv-series & booze, we decided to start a band.
First we got signed to Shark Records but Axel who owns the label is a dirty pig so that didn't
work out at all. Then we got signed to Z Records & as all of you know, Mark the little son of a bitch is a total asshole who deserves a big punch in the face, so that didn't work out at all.
After that I got in contact with Lion Music & got to know one of the greatest guys alive, Lasse Mattsson!
And the rest is fucking history!

I think you have succeeded very well in creating your own sound, what who you say are the main influences of the band? For instance I have often heard that people say that you are influenced by King's X but I think that your songs are more "commercial"...

Tuka: We all really love King's X and that has been a huge influence right from the start.
All of us has a lot of different influences. We listen to everyting from the old stuff to the new,
pop, metal, funk, punk, rock, classical, death.....everything. And we also love Primus!

What are the general subjects of your lyrics?

Tuka: I have no idea! Micke and Hea are the guys doing that work.
I don't understand half of them, and I have no intention trying to find out,
those guys are just too weird.....

Where did you record the album and how long did it take?

Tuka: We recorded it in our own little studio called "Dogsound Studio".
Acctually it took about 6 mounth, we are not fast.

The funny artwork of your debut album was put down by  a lot of reviewers - don't you think that it was a mistake to go in this direction?

Tuka: No, we don't regret that. We always do things our way.
If someone doesn't like it....too bad, but we don't care.

Are you doing a lot of live concerts and would you say that there is a good live scene for your kind of music in Sweden?

Tuka: We have decided not to tour.
We have tried to find the time to do so but it's impossible.
Maybe sometime in the future we will hit the road.
We would really love to do it, you know, meet our fans, rock like maniacs, drink a lot of beer.
So let's hope that the album is a hit and we are given a chance to do this with out having
to to a lot of other stuff besides Dogpound.

These days every musician seem to be member of several bands and most bands are no real bands, just studio projects. What do you think about this and how about you guys?

Tuka: Well, Dogpound is at the moment a studio band, but we sure are a real band anyway.
Both me, Hea and Micke are involved in a lot of different projects beside Dogpound

but Dogpound is our main band, our first priority. The band we love with all of our hearts.

For the Lion Music release "Give us Moore - Gary Moore Tribute" you recorded a song with Peter Tagtgren AKA "Pain", how did you come to know Peter and how was it to work with hm?

Tuka: Me & Peter have been friends for years & as all musicians do we used to have these

drunken talks and saying that we should do something together. And in 99,9% of the cases
nothing ever happens. But when Lion asked us if we wanted to do a song for that album

we decided to do Led Clones, who was a duet between Ozzy & Gary. So I called Peter up & asked
him if he wanted to do this & hi did. It was a blast recording the song. Peter is a great guy that
I see too little of, so the recording was just one big laugh.

What can we expect next from Dogpound?

Tuka: A new album! We have like 15 new song ready for you!
Better than ever. Great songs, not the kind of crap thay the youth of
today is brain washed with by the commercial channels. I'm talking about bands
like Nickelback, The Darkness, Slipknot and shit like that!

Anything else that you would like to add?

Tuka: If you like Dogpound and want a third album, buy
"A Night In The Gutter", don't download it.
